Three Botanical Gardens to Visit on Earth Day
Celebrate some of Mother Nature’s most beautiful gifts this Earth Day with a visit to one of these breathtaking botanical gardens.

No matter which day of the year you visit the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, NY you’ll find something beautiful in bloom, from summer’s water lilies and lotus, to orchids and ornamental conifers in winter. This season we’re stopping to smell colorful tulips, peonies, and flowering cherry trees.

Just as fashion has a look for every season, Descanso Gardens has a flower for each one, including lilacs and roses in the warmer months, and camellias and ginkgo in the cold seasons. Located in sunny Southern California, you can visit the gardens for a nice morning walk, yoga classes, or topiary design lessons. And don’t miss the magnificent California garden, complete with poppies and other wildflowers that are native only to the state.

Props to this one for being the oldest continually operating botanical garden in the country (it’s run by the U.S. Congress)! Pay a visit and you’ll find a wide variety of flora (about 26,000 plants!) that are used for exhibition, study, and exchange with other research institutions. The most noted collections at the garden include the cacti and succulents, medicinal plants, ferns, and of course, orchids.
