1950s-Inspired Beauty Tips for Prom

She may have been funny, but she was oh-so-glamorous too. Get a load of these quick and easy beauty tips inspired by the original Queen of Comedy - Ms. Lucille Ball!

Lip Service

A matte red lip is essential for pulling off this look. The key is to line lips to shape and define them, then apply a moisturizing color so lips are shine-free but sumptuous. Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick in Barcelona ($18) is a wonderful scarlet color in a stick form that defines, colors, and plumps lips all at once so you can skip the extra step of lining lips first.

The Eyes Have It

Wow 'em with a smoky eye that's somehow sweet too. Brush a dark brown eyeshadow on your eyelid and out just past the outer corners of your eyes, then line upper and lower lash lines with a dark brown eye liner. Try Almay Pure Blends Eyeshadow in Cocoa ($8) with Stila Cosmetics Smudge Pot Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate ($20).

Finish with a mascara that fattens lashes and curls them (giving you that smoky-yet-sweet look). We like Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! ($19) because it lengthens, curls, fattens, and conditions, plus it's an insanely rich black.

Upward Spiral

Take big, beautiful curls and sweep them into an updo. Work a flexible sculpting product, like Paul Mitchell Hair Sculpting Lotion ($9), into 1-inch sections of hair (remember, a little goes a long way), then wrap hair around a medium-barreled curling iron to create ringlets. Revlon Amber Waves Gold Curling Iron ($18) was designed to make ringlets. If your hair is long, pull it up into a ponytail at the top of your head and randomly pin the curls to your head; if you have shorter hair, pin hair in the back up to the crown of your head. Make sure you pin some of the curls to the front to create bangs.

Use a hairspray, such as Warren-Tricomi Style Flexible Hairspray ($20) for hold. Now you're ready for a sensational hair accessory! We're digging this Veiled Bow Headband ($9) and Feathered Net Headband ($49).
