Prom 2011 Makeup Trends
A pop of color on the eyes, a pretty, pale lip, and a perfectly unperfect updo inspired by Charlotte Brontë’s romantic literary heroine Jane Eyre and the soft, feminine look of actress Amy Adams as Princess Giselle in Enchanted.
Our romantic look starts with a grayish-blue eyeshadow on the eyelids, just up to the crease. Top that with two liquid eyeliners—first use a bright turquoise color at the upper lash line, then use a black liner on top of that. Make sure you make the turquoise line thick enough so that it peeks out above the black line. Next, dab a tiny bit of silvery white powder or eyeshadow in the inner corners of your eyes. Now, add false lashes to the upper lash line and finish with a coat of black mascara.
Complement the blue hues on your eyes with a barely-there pink lip color. First use a lip pencil to line your lips, then fill in with pink lipstick. You don’t want a super shiny lip, so top with a light balm rather than a heavy lipgloss.
The crowning glory of this look is the lovely, messy updo. To get that glamorous volume, gently tease your hair at the flat part of the crown of your head. Start at the root and use very small strokes, working just a couple of inches at a time. Now spritz your hair with a flexible spray, then use your fingers to smooth the rest of your hair over the teased portion, allowing stray strands to hang loosely around your face and in the back. Twist your hair into a chignon and secure with pins. Give your hair a final spritz of flexible hairspray and you’re ready for the big night.
