FIDM Student and fashion blogger Drew Scott styles and reports on three hot prom trends for men.
Out with the ruffles+piping and in with the playful patterns. In this look, I wanted to incorporate my current favorite spring piece—the silky button down. The look is complete with a pair of Converse and a straight cut suit pant—a mod touch that anybody can appreciate.
I love the juxtaposition between the effortless unbuttoned top and the sleek tailored blazer.
Staying in tact with the traditional prom attire, I wanted to create a look that sparked interest with color blocking. The tailored camel blazer was the perfect focal point atop the black button down. I added my signature cropped trouser in a stark frost grey and finished the look with a chunky patent dress shoe.
I love how the belt, top, and shoes create your “visual thirds,” allowing the other colors to really pop.
This look is the most unlike your traditional prom attire; pairing loose with fitted was my main mission. This pair of Maison Margiela pants was the focal point of this ensemble. I paired a crisp white fitted button down with the wide leg trouser to offset the proportion.
Lastly, I added a textured skinny tie to elongate the figure and bring in a sense of sophistication. Feel free to add a blazer and dress shoes to formalize this look a bit more.
