Alyssa Ramirez was accepted early through the Junior Advantage Program!
We recently chatted with Central High School’s Alyssa Ramirez about her exciting news!
How did you come to be president of your FIDM Fashion Club?
I actually started my school’s Fashion Club at the beginning of this school year and ended up getting it approved. It was definitely a process, but it has proved to be so worth it!
When did you first develop an interest in fashion?
I’ve always had an interest in fashion. I wasn’t so interested in actually designing, but I loved the business side of it. I vowed even from a young age to be involved in it in some way, eventually. So, my first time doing that is being president of my school’s FIDM Fashion Club!
What made you apply as part of the Junior Advantage Program?
I definitely wanted to get a head start in the college department, so as early as sophomore year, I was doing college searches in my own time, and that’s when I discovered FIDM. I went and visited and absolutely fell in love, and knew that I wanted to be accepted as soon as I could. I applied once the application opened up and soon found out about my acceptance!
How does it feel to already be accepted to college as a junior?
It felt so secure. I really was ahead of my game and I didn’t have to be worried about all of the college pressure in late junior year, and especially with senior year. I loved it also because I was able to meet others who also got accepted as juniors and we’ve all formed great friendships through the common experience!
Do you know what your major will be and which campus you will attend?
Yes! I’ll be doing my B.A. degree in Social Media at the LA campus and I’m beyond excited about it!
How is everything going with Fashion Club? Any fun events planned for 2019?
Everything is going great! We have many members who love attending our monthly meetings and I know that I love doing it! We have done various activities like mood boards, creating ugly sweaters, sketching, and we’ll be doing a lot more with the rest of our year.
We are planning on a fundraiser, and also a lot more sketching and designing. Our school doesn’t have fashion classes or any materials to actually make clothes, but we definitely have other options to take part in lot of fun and creative activities!
