And once she graduates, this FC President is all about working for Free People in Pennsylvania!
Camille Célifié is a junior and the FC President at Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, California. She said that from the moment she stepped foot onto FIDM’s Orange County campus, she knew it was the college for her! (Our hearts are melting.)
Do you have plans to attend FIDM? Honestly, FIDM is my dream school. I knew when I walked into the Orange County Campus lobby, to sign in for my first Open House, that this was the community where someone like myself would be embraced and given the support system to achieve my potential. I hope that I can one day call myself a student of FIDM.
Tell us a little about yourself: Ever since I was little I’ve always had the passion and drive to create, whether it was a little doll dress made out of paper towels or a crayon drawing of clothes I would dream of wearing one day. This passion and drive has stayed with me through the years, especially when it comes to fashion and art. Now I actively strive to create with the various mediums of art and fashion while also reaching out to other passionate individuals within my community to make essential connections and learn valuable lessons.
What are your career goals? Since I was a freshman I’ve dreamed that I would one day move to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and have the amazing opportunity to intern for Free People at their URBN home office. I imagine myself securing a permanent job within the company working with both the business and creative sides of the company. If my path lies elsewhere, I hope that I am still involved with bohemian, vintage inspired, innovative clothing one way or another.
Favorite outfit: I absolutely adore pairing my sixties inspired Free People mini-dress that has flared long-sleeves with a beautiful open-toed pair of buckle, block-heeled Seychelles.
How did you get involved in Fashion Club? I saw a flyer that a representative from FIDM was visiting our school. Out of curiosity I did a little of my own research and I found out about FIDM Fashion Club.
What do you love most about Fashion Club? I absolutely love how Fashion Club provides the dreamers, creators, inventors, and artists with the opportunity to connect with one another and ultimately thrive off of the magnetic synergy.
What kinds of activities do you have planned for your club this year? For the remainder of the school year I plan to provide members with the access to workshops, opportunity to design holiday cards for our local retirement homes, and the overall solidifying of our club’s foundation. As this is our first year of revival, my team and I have brainstormed on opportunities of our members this year, but have also organized a plethora of new functions for the next year. These events include but are not limited to designing shirts for the popular warped welcome school dance, designing holiday cards for the elderly in our local retirement home, a Halloween costume fashion show, and fashion video planning and production for the school’s video announcements.
Anything else you’d like to share? For those who are interested in or are currently starting a Fashion Club, I strongly urge you to take ahold of the opportunity and run with it. It will provide you and the other creators within your school with opportunities that they would not have without the club. However, you must know that it will be difficult, especially if you are president. In order to prevent avoidable mistakes, be sure to build a strong team of individuals who are dedicated, establish a strong line of connection to your superiors as well as your fellow club members, and take obstacles as learning experiences. The road of a president will be riddled with trials, but it will also reap incredible opportunities to learn, connect, and develop yourself as a leader and a creator. The skills you will learn can be applied to multiple aspects of your life within and outside the fashion community. Whatever path you take, I wish you the best of luck from one president to another.
