She starts studying at FIDM LA this summer!
We chatted with Abington Senior HS FIDM Fashion Club President Alimah Kasumu about participating in her first fashion show and heading to FIDM!
What did it feel like to participate in your first fashion show?
I loved seeing the models really appreciate themselves in the clothing and having fun in the process. I loved being able to see what we had accomplished in planning, decorating, and making the clothes.
Tell us about the looks you designed and showed. Was there a certain theme?
We had multiple themes—prom, 90s, DIY, street wear, and cultural—and we were able to categorize the looks we made or owned into those themes. For the prom theme, the unique dresses were made/bought by the club’s vice president and me.
Our DIY and 90s theme consisted of jumpsuits that we sewed. The street wear had graphic tees from my apparel brand, A-Star Galaxy, and casual clothing that the vice president sewed. Lastly, the cultural clothing were outfits that I made with ankara fabric that is common in Africa.
What have you enjoyed most about being a Fashion Club President for two years?
I enjoyed expressing my love for fashion and sharing it, along with my knowledge, to the members.
You’re coming to 3 Days of Fashion this summer. What are you looking forward to?
I look forward to meeting new people, potential business partners, and new friends. I still talk to and connect with the people I met last year. Additionally, I cannot wait for the workshops!

What are your other plans for the summer?
When I leave to attend the 3 Days of Fashion, I am staying in LA since I will begin my first quarter at FIDM in July!
