FC Pres Mariah Mckenzie shares her experience.
FC Pres Mariah Mckenzie arranged a field trip for her FIDM Fashion Club to attend a fashion show at Iowa State University in March! Mariah will be a junior in the fall.
It was nice to be able to use our funds we had raised in the fall from selling school-themed scarves to go to a fun fashion event. The best part about attending the show was getting to know each other better.
The show was held in Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University, and featured garments created by their Fashion Design students.
Many of the looks were brightly colored and had funky patterns. There were also some children’s clothes on the runway. There was a guest designer from New York City, Abasi Rosborough, whose collection reflected the American people during this past election.
After the show, we discussed the looks we liked.
This past year my boyfriend invited me to his prom, and I designed a red mermaid prom dress to wear. The mermaid tail part of the dress was detachable. At the dance, I was able to take off the mermaid tail and let my legs get some air. I had just been drawing up some ideas and decided I actually wanted to make it. It was definitely worth it. I received many compliments, and saved money too.
I make flower accessories out of aluminum pop cans and my biggest goal right now is to get my Etsy shop, PoppingFlowers, up by the end of the month!
