The FC co-presidents fill us in on what they’re up to!
Millikan High School’s Kali Sanders and Sarah Searing catch us up on their busy FIDM Fashion Club! The video for their 2018 Fashion Show is lit!
How did you come to be president of your Fashion Club?
Kali: This is my first year in fashion class and my first year as Fashion Club co-president, but last year I was a model for Sarah in the fashion show we put on. I knew I wanted to to be a part of it, so I took the class, and then Sarah and I decided to restart the club.
Sarah: I am currently on my second year of being Fashion Club president and at Millikan we actually have a fashion class. Currently we have three full classes (one advanced and two beginning). When I joined the beginning class, I was so enthralled with fashion and always considered myself a leader that the students in the class elected me and it’s been so much fun ever since.
You recently attended Fashion Club Day at FIDM. What were your favorite parts?
Kali: I loved the workshop we did and I liked that we were able to collaborate with people from other schools and share our ideas.
Sarah: I really enjoyed meeting new people and hearing how they run their club. It was also really exciting to see how FIDM staff and students all really have the same goal of making everything a fun and creative environment.

What do you love about Fashion Club (and FIDM) in general?
Kali: Fashion Club is super cool because we have so many members and it’s nice to be able to talk about something that we all enjoy and can all have a real conversation about. I’ve never really been a part of a club before and I’m glad my first experience in a club is for something I’m so passionate about.
Sarah: One of my favorite part is being around like-minded individuals and being able to share something you love.
What are some of your favorite past activities you’ve done with your club?
Sarah: We have been putting on a runway show for many years now and that has been super fun to watch and be a part of. We also have meetings in class discussing award show fashion or upcoming trends and it’s cool to see what everyone is into.
Do you have any fun activities planned for 2019?
Sarah: In 2019, we will be debuting our 6th annual fashion show that will show over 200 of our students work. At the fashion show, our club members make anywhere from two- to 12-piece collections from scratch. We also learn how to do hair, make up, and choreograph models. It’s such a fun experience and brings so many talents people together.
What are your plans and ultimate career goals after high school?
Kali: After high school I plan to attend FIDM at the OC campus, and I will be majoring in Merchandise & Marketing and my ultimate career goal would be to become a buyer or trend analyst. I think both jobs are kind of similar and have to do with trends in some way or another and I think that’s what really interests me, how fashion moves so quickly and how there is a new trend almost every second.
Sarah: I also plan on attending FIDM, at the LA campus, and will be majoring in Merchandise Product Development. My ultimate career goal would be working anywhere in the fashion industry because I have such a love for design and merchandising.
