Iyomi Ho Ken is a senior and the FC President at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida. She just wrapped up their biggest event of the year, an annual fashion show to benefit charity!
Tell us about your fashion show: It was our 3rd Annual Wear What You Love Fashion Show, held January 27, 2018, in our school’s auditorium. We had two designers, three stylists, three coordinators, and 59 models—each collection ranging from 6-9 looks.
Where did you get the clothes? The stylists used their own clothes or thrifted clothes for the models. Coordinators went to a store and asked the owner if they were comfortable lending them the clothes for the fashion show. It they said yes then the coordinator and store owner would fill out a contract, thus letting them be able to borrow the clothes for the night. The designers handmade the clothing for the models.
What was the best part of the show? The final walk out, when everyone that took part in the show came out on stage and had a mini dance party.
What was the biggest challenge? I would say coordinating rehearsal times and making sure everyone felt comfortable on the stage. It all worked out in the end though.
Any advice for a Fashion Club wanting to do a fashion show? Stay organized!! Also, make sure everyone is equally excited about the show and promote it as much as you can. We were able to get people outside of our club to participate, and they turned into members because they loved what they were apart of.
