She learned how to embroider, how to draw a croquis, and how to run a successful fundraiser for her club!
Westhill High School Fashion Club president Deanna Crevecoeur is crazy about all things fashion, admitting to us that she “freaked out” when she discovered her school’s fashion club, which just completed its inaugural year. Here, the busy sophomore dishes on her personal style, what she loves most about Fashion Club, and her club’s successful first year.
Describe your personal style: My wardrobe consists of a wide range of styles, but the majority of it is either bohemian, girly, or grunge. I have an odd addiction to jeans—no exaggeration, they are all I wear. I am also deeply in love with my platform sneakers, especially when I wear them with cute lace and mesh socks. I also own many jackets. Whether it is my jean jacket, my gray oversized bomber jacket, or one of my colorful Nike windbreakers, I always make it the staple to an outfit. To sum things up, when it comes to fashion I am very versatile and open minded to try new things. I love to mix and match everything in my closet to create an entirely new and different outfit everyday.
What is your favorite outfit? My favorite outfit is the one in the picture. These blue mid rise jeans, with the eyelet detailing on the sides, are one of my favorite articles of clothing. I wear my black leather Chelsea boots quite often because they are very comfortable and easy to pair with. I love this combination of jeans and boots paired with this blue, off-the-shoulder crop top from Brandy Melville. And I love to accessorize every outfit with a different choker from my growing collection.
How did you get involved in Fashion Club? The first time I heard about the club was a month or two into the beginning of this school year. I came across one of the flyers and noticed the words: “Have a passion for fashion?” I’m not even going to lie, I started freaking out because I am insanely crazy about fashion. I remember I couldn’t wait to go to the first meeting!
What do you love the most about Fashion Club? Not only do I love the fun activities we do, but I really did not expect to learn as much as I have at Fashion Club. I’ve learned little things like how to embroider, which is something I have always wanted to try. I also learned how to draw a croquis, which became very useful to me since I love fashion design and sewing. We also had a representative from FIDM come speak to us about the school which was truly an awesome experience. I learned about what they have to offer, the different campuses, the application process, scholarships, and stories from now successful graduates. Before this presentation, I had no idea that there were so many different studies of fashion.
What activities did your club do in its first year? Our first activity was our pop up shop. We knew that we would need money before we could do anything, so that was our first step. For the shop, we hand made rings, chokers, necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories, and candy cane deer (this was before winter break). We knew that our art teacher, Mrs. Konrad, was very skilled at embroidery, so we asked her to come in and teach the club how to embroider. We did an embroidery day part two the following week because everyone enjoyed it that much!
We also had the president of Norwalk Community College fashion show come in to speak to us about their club and the fashion show they were holding.
Did your club attend 3 Days of Fashion, the Fashion Club Debut Pre-Party or FIDM DEBUT Runway Show? With the club beginning just this year, we weren’t aware of the different activities at FIDM at the time, but we have definitely discussed taking a trip to the school for the summer programs sometime in the future. This would be a dream for the club!
