“It is amazing that FIDM gives high schoolers the opportunity to start working towards their educational goals…”
Tell us a little about yourself: My mother is American and my father is Italian. Although I was born in Miami Beach, Florida, I’ve been really lucky to be able to visit my Italian family in Milano, and be inspired by the fashion industry. As a child, I did professional ballet and competitive rhythmic gymnastics. Now, however, I love to stay fit by doing yoga, jogging on the beach, or rollerblading with my friends. I’m a very outgoing person who aspires to achieve many wonderful things in the future and experience a lot of unexpected adventures.
Tell us about the video you made to promote your club: Since I want to have a successful year with Fashion Club, I know that the only way I can achieve this is to surround myself with key members who are also passionate about fashion. I instructed one of the members (Yamila Chacour) to incorporate a young fashionista located in a fashionable location such as Rodeo Drive. She executed this task perfectly and I am fortunate that she is a member of our club. Throughout the year, I plan on giving all the members a chance to contribute something to the club, as we are a talented group and each member should have the opportunity to shine.
Favorite outfit: I love wearing a crop top/blouse, A-line skirts, chokers, and sandals.
How did you get involved in Fashion Club? Fashion Club was an existing club at my school and I was intrigued as I have a strong interest in fashion. I have been a member for the past two years, and I feel honored that I am the president this year.
What do you love the most about Fashion Club? What I love most about Fashion Club is that I get to surround myself with like minded people. When I speak of my favorite designer or discuss a show that occurred during NYFW, I can have conversations about those things and it feels refreshing.
What kinds of activities do you have planned for the year? We are fortunate that we live in Miami, Florida, because we have Miami Fashion Week coming up and we hope to get tickets for one of the shows. I would also like to organize our fashion show at our school and incorporate a fundraiser to a non-profit organization. I will discuss my top choices with my club so we can all vote. In addition, I would like for all the team members to create two looks for themselves for the fashion show. This way they will feel confident while walking down the runway in front of their classmates. Also, when Art Basel is in town, I plan on organizing an afternoon for us to attend some of the exhibitions. We have lots of fun things planned and we will be sharing everything on our social media pages.
Do you have plans to attend FIDM? YES! I think it’s a great college for young, creative minds and I totally see myself living in a place as fabulous as California.
What are your career goals? Upon graduating college, I would love to become a brand ambassador for a reputable fashion designer and work with that brand to learn as much as I can about the business of fashion, as I am not a designer. However, my ultimate goal is to own a boutique where you will find fashionable women who like to receive imported merchandise from Italy and France. I would like for my boutique to have a niche so that my clientele understands that I will carry items that my competition won’t.
Anything else you’d like to share? I am extremely excited about my position as president of my school’s Fashion Club and I am eager to learn new things from other clubs and share everything I learn with my club. It is amazing that FIDM gives high schoolers the opportunity to start working towards their educational goals and I cannot wait to get this club up and running. On a side note, I will soon be launching my own fashion blog through my personal Instagram account @valentinasolci. The blog will be focusing on the fashion and beauty scene in Miami, Florida and beyond. So stay tuned!
