She has plans for her club to do all student run photo shoots this year!
Kristina Sanderson is the Fashion Club President and a junior at Cypress Creek High School in Houston, Texas. We sat down with her to get to know her better!
Tell us a little about yourself: From a very young age, I knew I was an artist. I sometimes struggled with math, and found it hard to concentrate in my core classes, but in classes like photography and fashion design, I excelled beyond my peers. Now that I’m in high school, I know that I want to be in the fashion industry as a fashion stylist and photographer. Fashion has impacted me, and I wanted to find a way to help it impact others!
Favorite outfit: That’s really tough! It’s always changing for me—I combine outfits in my head 24/7. But I always love a very well put together streetwear inspired look, like those from A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith, and Willow Smith.
How did you get involved in Fashion Club? When I was a freshman, we had a Fashion Club but it gradually disbanded. After a discussion with my mom who suggested I bring it back, I talked to my fashion design teacher and she put me in contact with FIDM.
What do you love the most about Fashion Club? I love the flexibility. There are so many different components to the fashion industry, and in Fashion Club, we give the members of our club a chance to explore them. It gives a much broader sense to the industry and I love that.
What kinds of activities do you have planned for the year? It’s going to be very busy! I have the club attending fashion shows in Houston, along with what I think is going to be really exciting—all student run photo shoots! I think that there are so many different parts of a photo shoot, and that it would be great opportunity to have students expand their portfolio in a practical way.
Do you have plans to attend FIDM? I would love to! At this point in time it is very high up on my college list.
What are your career goals? Fashion stylist and photographer. I’ve always known that I would like to be in the fashion industry, and with my newfound love for photography, I want to be able to include that as well.
Anything else you’d like to share? I would like to personally thank FIDM for sponsoring our club, creating this wonderful program, and giving this opportunity to our youth. I also would like to thank Talia Tonti and Danica Ybanez at Fashion Club for their support throughout this entire process.
