Students discovered new clothes and helped others in need.
McDowell High School FIDM Fashion Club President Rylee Parsons tells us about their successful event.
Two weeks ago, members of our club, faculty, and other students donated clothes, shoes, and accessories so that we were able to host this event at no cost. We motivated them to donate by turning it into a competition.
A local boutique of ours, Spruced Boutique, donated a $30 gift card, which we used as a prize for whoever donated the most items to Titan Thrift. We set up shop in our lunchroom where students would have time to browse. Students at our school loved the opportunity to shop for free.
We set a limit of three clothing items, along with three accessories for everyone. The limits extended to five for those who had donated. On the first day of the event, we had many people ask if they could donate the next day. We were able to extend the event to last the rest of the week.
At the end of the day Friday, we donated remaining items to a closet in our school for homeless students. It was a proud moment for our club as we have received lots of positive feedback and 25 new interested members we hope to register at our next meeting! Watching our peers get excited about this opportunity and seeing them rock their new clothes the next day, has been a truly uplifting experience!
