The FC Pres at Herbert Hoover HS attended Fashion Club Day at FIDM, for the second year in a row.
Nora Casey is a senior and the President of Herbert Hoover High School FIDM Fashion Club in Glendale, California.
Tell us about Fashion Club Day at FIDM: This was my second year attending Fashion Club Day at FIDM, and I loved it again, of course. What draws me to Fashion Club Day is being able to be unapologetically creative and myself, there is a big sense of individuality but in a group setting. FIDM always inspires me to be creative and be me.

What was the best part? The best part of my day at FIDM was making some new friends and making memories with my VP Erica who never fails to make me laugh. But my proudest moment had to be watching my club’s previous president Nooneh talk during the Fashion Club panel. Of course I have heard her say all these things before, but watching her be so courageous was amazing.
Tell us a little about yourself: Besides Fashion Club, I am also a member of French Club where I learn about the French culture that I truly love. I hosted a French foreign exchange student last year and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my time at high school. Not only did I learn more about France, I gained a best friend!
My favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice (2005 version). I fell in love with the story; it made me realize how much I appreciated fashion and it’s evolution. Honestly, I would love to live in 18th Century England, but oh well.
When I’m not in school, I’m usually working my part sales job which I love so much! It’s true that if you love your job you won’t work a day in your life. Working has forced me to break out of my shell and develop my people skills, which is extremely helpful when it comes to Fashion Club.

How did you get involved in Fashion Club? I was in fashion class and I heard that there was a Fashion Club too. I was immediately interested, so I went to some of the meetings. The following year our founding president asked me if I wanted to be vice president because I showed such an interest in the club. Of course I said yes.
My president at the time was Nooneh Aslanian, who attends FIDM now. She inspired me to always do my best in the club and she showed me the values of a good club. She taught me it’s important to be a good leader because people who share the same values and interests will follow in your footsteps and will bring the club to life. This is something I have struggled with in the past due to my shyness but I told myself I had to overcome that for the sake of the club. Sometimes you just have to go for it and live your life.
What I love most about the club is the community. I Iove walking into our meetings every week, seeing the smiling faces of the members and listening to all the ideas they have. They are such a collaborative, committed group; it fills me with so much joy and pride! I definitely have a lot of love for the girls and boys in the club, and thank them for all their hard work.
Tell us about the fashion show you’re working on: The theme of our fashion show is transformation and finding your identity through clothing. I picked this theme because everyone in high school is trying to discover who they are and what they want to be, but they face a lot of difficulties. So by helping discover their style it could provide some insight into their true self and help them to be more expressive. It’s very important for me to get as many people in my school involved, to get a sense of community. Although I have faced a lot of difficulties, I’m am still so hopeful and excited for the show!
Favorite outfit: High-waisted boyfriend jeans from CottonOn with an embroidered star on the left leg and a rip in the right knee, with any of my way-too-many wrap tops, paired with some black booties, or my Puma suede platforms if I’m going for a more casual look, and always a choker, always.
Anything else you’d like to share? To anyone interested in fashion, I recommend looking into starting an official FIDM Fashion Club. It can lead to so many amazing opportunities.
