Students raised awareness for breast cancer and funds for DEBUT.
Oviedo High School Fashion Club President Yesenia Castaneda tells us about their productive October.
Last month, we decorated a door on campus for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There were about 10 members who helped decorate the door, which was up for about two weeks.
It was part of a school-wide movement to bring awareness to breast cancer. We used wrapping paper to cover the door, tissue paper for the flowers, and a feather boa to outline the window.
In October we also had a stand at a local farmers market to give away “Monster Hands” made from popcorn. Every member came out to help made the monster hands. We had a booth near a playground so many kids came by and thought they were the coolest thing and the parents loved the idea as well!
A lot of adults noticed the monster hands circulating around the farmers market and tried to find our booth just to see and get them. We took donations for when we go to FIDM’s DEBUT Show and raised about ninety dollars!
