The designer just graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in Colorado where she was the FIDM Fashion Club President.
Molly O’Brien, who will be attending FIDM Los Angeles this fall to study Fashion Design, already has her own successful fashion label, Molly Elizabeth. A recent Instagram post by influencer Sabrina Carpenter wearing one of her designs got over 500K likes! We sat down with Molly to get to find out more about her line, her FIDM Fashion Club, and her Project Runway Junior experience.
Tell us a bit about yourself: I am an 18-year-old fashion designer and entrepreneur from Fort Collins, Colorado, with my online brand, Molly Elizabeth. Last year, I was selected as one of the cast members of Project Runway Junior. I just finished high school and this fall I’m moving out to LA to start my first semester at FIDM.
Asteroid Tiered Ruffle Dress and Marble Bell Bottoms by Molly Elizabeth
Tell us about your label: Molly Elizabeth LLC was started just a few years ago when I began designing my first collections at local fashion weeks, which then spread to international shows. Molly Elizabeth has since grown, now focusing on our online star to provide innovative apparel that celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter have recently praised. We design for the young women market, introducing a fresh take on ready-to-wear apparel with our romantic streetwear style. The biggest challenge with having your own fashion label is distinguishing yourself from other young designers, but the most important thing is to focus on what makes your brand unique. The biggest reward is getting to display your art to the world, especially with fashion the best reward is seeing your customers wearing your clothes… it’s like wow “I made that!”

Tell us about Sabrina Carpenter’s IG post where she is wearing one of your designs: This past March, Sabrina Carpenter posted a photo wearing our Molly Elizabeth Tiered Ruffle Top, in addition to tagging my personal Instagram account. It was exciting to see the post because not only am I glad such a talented and fashion forward icon loves my designs, but it was such an honor to have her post the photo, especially giving my brand credit! With her 12 million Instagram followers, it not only increased my social following, but increased my customer base… the top also sold out very quickly:) It really propelled my business and that just goes to show how much of an influence that social media has in today’s world of digital marketing!
How did you get involved in Fashion Club? I got involved in Fashion Club when I moved to a new school and decided it would be a great idea to introduce a fashion community within the school. Students throughout the school were very excited because with the lack of a strong sewing program, it was a place where we could all connect and learn more about our passion for the fashion industry and explore future career opportunities in all areas of the industry.
Any advice for new FC Presidents? Learn what members of Fashion Club are interested in knowing more about. For example, there are so many unique areas of the fashion industry that you typically don’t think of including photographers and marketing experts. Asking members what they are interested in can really help make the club a thrilling and exciting experience for everyone involved.

What made FIDM right for you? What made FIDM the right choice for me was the unique educational experience it will provide me in the fashion industry. FIDM offers a great wealth of opportunities, especially in terms of networking which is very important in this industry. I expect to not only expand what I know about fashion construction, design, and business knowledge; but FIDM will provide unique real world experience.
Who is your FIDM Admissions Advisor? Debbie Hatcher
What are your career goals? My career goals are to expand my fashion brand Molly Elizabeth and become a leading voice in the fashion industry.
Tell us about your experience on PRJ: Project Runway Junior was the experience of a lifetime, getting mentored from icons like Tim Gunn and Christian Siriano, along with showcasing my designs to the nation! I learned that I definitely work best under pressure, and I grew so much as a designer each day, expanding my boundaries even after the show.
