This Fashion Club Member can’t wait to see where her career takes her in the fashion industry.
Sidney Garcia is John Burroughs High School FIDM Fashion Club in Burbank, California. She just got accepted into FIDM and starts this July on the the Los Angeles campus. She loves reading, writing, cooking, and painting!
What’s your FIDM major? Visual Communications. Woo I’m so excited! As long I can remember I’ve always found ways to make objects or displays look more appealing. Whether it’s rearranging my room or deciding on an outfit, I always strive to make things beautiful and interesting. I never knew what VCOMM was until I heard of FIDM so it’s really cool now knowing that I have a natural affinity for something that translates into a career.
What made FIDM right for you? I knew FIDM was the school for me when I realized that fashion is something I’m subconsciously doing 24/7. I think about clothes and how they’re made and new things to try out all the time! It’s a lot of fun.
What are your career goals? I would love to start with an internship at a clothing company to get experience in the business of fashion. After that I’ll see where life takes me! Of course I want to be successful and happy like everyone does, but I’m the type of person to not settle for less. I’ll keep working until I get what I want. I have high expectations for myself and my work so I’m ecstatic to see what will come.
How did your Fashion Club experience bring you closer to realizing your career goals? I joined Fashion Club because I was already thinking about FIDM and being in there made me realize holy moly I really do enjoy this world and I want to integrate myself into it like NOW!
Any advice for current Fashion Club Presidents? Don’t give up. Running a club can be stressful but remember there are people in there who look forward to going so put your best effort into making it a fun learning environment. Hey, also bring snacks once in a while…snacks bring people together just saying.
Anything else you’d like to share? I’m so blessed and excited to start my FIDM journey and I’m anxious to see where it leads me! I hope to be successful and get my name out there as someone hardworking and kind. It was difficult choosing the right college for me but I think I made the right decision. I’m ready to put my blood, sweat, and tears into this path I’ve chosen because I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
