Hear about their respective journeys to their dream school!
Sunrise Mountain High School Fashion Club President Avery Alvarado will study Visual Communications at FIDM, while Co-President Jezra Fuentes plans to major in Fashion Design. We caught up with this dynamic duo to learn more.
How did you first hear about FIDM?
AA: I first heard about FIDM from a family friend when I was in junior high and I knew from a young age I wanted to go to a fashion school.
JF: FIDM has been my dream school since I was first told about it during my freshman year of high school when one of their representatives came to speak to my design class. It seemed like everything I ever wanted put together into one school and I wanted to learn more.
What were your impressions of the campus?
AA: The first time I visited FIDM LA in person was the summer after my freshman year and I was in awe. I loved the creativity and vibe!
JF: I have visited the LA campus and attended DEBUT twice now, and I absolutely loved the energy and the environment of the school. I was so inspired and moved by the many creatively constructed designs in the FIDM Museum.
How did it feel to be accepted at FIDM?
AA: I was so excited when I found out I got accepted to FIDM because I had been so excited to apply since I had started high school.
JF: Being accepted into FIDM has probably been one of the happiest moments of my life! I still cannot stop thinking about all the amazing material I’ll end up learning, all the new creative people I’ll meet, and overall all the opportunities that are bound to come with being a student.
What are your ultimate career goals?
AA: My ultimate career goal is to become a celebrity stylist!
JF: I wish to single myself out from the rest of the designers and initiate my whimsical individual style into a clothing line that will win praise in the fashion world. Even without praise, I just desire to create something with meaning for people of every color and feel that FIDM could help me achieve that goal.
How did Fashion Club help prepare you for FIDM?
AA: I think my Fashion Club has taught me responsibility, patience, teamwork, and hard work!
JF: With Fashion Club these last three years, we have successfully put together three fashion shows at our school. I have learned a lot about planning and organization through a variety of fundraisers, charity events, and small creative projects Fashion Club has worked on throughout the years.
