Play up your natural texture this season!
We saw tons of texture on the Fall/Winter 2017 runways, and we’re not just talking about the fashion. Whether it was air dried, curled and crimped, or gently teased, models at dozens of shows were given the texture treatment when it came to their hair. There were textured ponytails at Vanessa Seward, naturals at Marc Jacobs, and wild tousles at Marni, not to mention the air dried, devil-may-care looks at Osman, Chloe, and Alexis Mabille.

And tons of tastemakers are embracing their natural hair textures as well. Solange Knowles, Vanessa Hudgens, Peyton List, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Blake Lively and tons of other stars with naturally curly or wavy tresses have posted pics of themselves rocking their natural textures on Instagram (and looking amazing, of course!), and tons more have taken to using products that help give their naturally stick-straight hair more volume and texture. We’ve spotted the look on red carpets at the MTV Video Music Awards (Yara Shahidi’s hair gave us life!), the recent Emmy Awards, and several movie premieres, and we predict this trend is gonna stay hot for a long time.

Want to try the trend? Whether you’re straight or curly, the goal here is to create a voluminous look that is anything but sleek and smooth. If you have naturally curly, kinky, or wavy hair then you’re in luck–you won’t have to do much to rock this trend; if your strands are stick-straight you’ll need a little help. For naturally textured girls, letting your hair air dry or using a diffuser with just a little bit of product, such as a volumizing mousse or anti-frizz serum will help you get the look; then you can add in more products, like curling cream or texturizing paste, and manipulate your hair with your fingers to achieve the texture you want. For straight-haired lasses, you may need to use a curling wand, crimping iron, or perm rods to give you some curl and volume, then you can add texturizing spray or paste and manipulate your tresses with your fingers. You can also braid your hair while it’s wet to create loose curls and waves that can then be manipulated.
