Velvet is back and better than ever!
So, everyone is wearing velvet right now, and we’re so here for it! It’s glamorous, it’s luxurious, and it looks amazing in selfies, js. Okay, let’s back up. We first noticed this trend on the Fall 2016 runways with just a few designers, but it’s gained momentum and made a triumphant return for the Fall/Winter 2017-18 season. We spotted luxe velvet pieces at dozens of shows, including Tibi, Monse, Altuzarra, Erdem, Jason Wu, Gucci, and Prada. And we’re not just talking about a touch of velvet here and a kiss of velvet there–full, head-to-toe velvet looks in bold shades of cobalt and canary, as well as soft blush and peach tones.

Cool girls like Kate Hudson, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Alexa Chung, and Elizabeth Olsen started rocking the trend early, and other celebs and tastemakers have followed suit, showing up at red carpet events and appearances in rich velvet. We’ve seen Lily James and Zendaya in velvet jumpsuits (which we’re definitely adding to our cart this season), and velvet mini dresses on style stars Alexa Chung and Ashley Graham. And with the holidays upon us, we can expect to see even more celebs out and about in velvet looks–it is, after all, perfect for the season’s festivities.

Want to try the trend? You won’t have a hard time finding a velvet piece you love because this trend is everywhere right now. Warm up with a chic blazer or a luxe velvet kimono, either of which will instantly elevate a basic jeans-and-tee combo. Alternatively, you can wear a pair of velvet trousers with your favorite T-shirt (we love a good band T-shirt). Or try a velvet sweatshirt like the one we found at Express–the slouchy silhouette lends a casual vibe to the rich fabric. If you’re still not too sure about this trend, ease into it with some velvet accessories–a handbag, a pair of booties, or throw it all the way back to the ‘90s with a velvet choker.
