This FC President just got accepted into FIDM to study Merchandising & Marketing!
Trevor Garcia is a senior and the Fashion Club President at Rancho Campana High School in Camarillo, California. On March 16th, he produced a fashion show held at the Rancho Campana High School Black Box Theatre.
Tell us about your fashion show: All designs and stylings were up to everyone’s interpretation. There were no limits regarding design. Three looks were designed and handmade by students and the rest were styled. We had 30 models and 33 looks.
How did you get your models? We planned for model auditions but then decided against it. We agreed that it would be best to personally reach out to students who expressed interest. I contacted a lot of my friends whom I knew would be interested, and started to give them a run down of our plans.
How did you promote it? We promoted our fashion show primarily on Monarch Mornings which is a student broadcast system. I announced the time, dates, location, as well as what was served as refreshments.
Where did you get the clothes? Their clothes came from thrift stores and straight from the models’ personal wardrobes. We wanted to make this opportunity available to anyone.
What did you like the most? I loved getting to create and style various looks with some of my friends. Fashion is such a huge passion of mine, so getting to share it with my friends and the audience was the most rewarding and exciting part.
What were the challenges? I’d say something we could improve on was our communication between models. I could tell they felt a little disorganized because they didn’t know what was going on some of the time. Even though I knew what the outcome was, it would’ve gone more smoothly if the models were more frequently updated.
Do you have plans to attend FIDM? Yes!!! Actually, I recently got accepted! I am super stoked to be a Merchandising & Marketing major! I can’t wait to meet new people who share the same goals and aspirations as me. I’m ready to work hard at doing what I love!
Any advice for other presidents producing a fashion show? I would say it’s really helpful to have it all typed out on a document to keep you organized, every little detail. And it’s also helpful to think through everything, go through every step in your head and be preventative.
Anything else you’d like to share? FIDM Fashion Club has been an AMAZING experience for me. Being able to produce my very own fashion show is incredible, and allows me to bring one of my passions to life. I would say producing a fashion show is definitely worth it, and encourage anyone interested to try it! Highly recommend joining FIDM Fashion Club or running for office. The opportunities are endless!
