The FC Pres at Immaculata La Salle High School writes about her experience at the show.
“I couldn’t help but notice the artwork of Chris Martin as his illustrations reflect my personality, which is very colorful and vibrant.”
Art Basel 2016 was one of the most memorable events of the year, attracting seasoned art enthusiasts and celebrities such as Heidi Klum, Ariana Grande and Madonna, to name a few. Even with all the lavish parties and endless exhibits from Miami Beach to Wynwood, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I couldn’t help but stop by my beloved Miami Design District to see what some of the top designers had to show during Art Basel.
I was pleasantly surprised that one of my favorite designers decided to showcase a special and unique collection for Art Basel as they hand-picked seven artists to redesign their well-known Lady Dior Bag, originally created in 1995.
The seven lucky artists chosen to take on this task were: Mat Collishaw, Ian Davenport, Daniel Gordon, Chris Martin, Jason Martin, Matthew Porter, and Marc Quinn.
Each artist meticulously crafted their interpretation of how the Lady Dior Bag should look as they all demonstrated a creative take on the iconic bag and revamped it to something very eclectic to say the least.
The Dior boutique at the Miami Design District proudly showcased the bags and gave each art enthusiast “Dior Lady Art,” a brochure which introduced each artist and explained how they designed their pieces.
Having witnessed all of them up close, it was extremely difficult to chose my favorite one as all of them were just so beautifully crafted. But if I had to chose one, I couldn’t help but notice the artwork of Chris Martin as his illustrations reflect my personality, which is very colorful and vibrant.
Dior will not carry these precious bags once Art Basel is gone so I feel very fortunate that I had the opportunity to see these artistic pieces; I hope that next year other designers in the Miami Design District will join in the Art Basel phenomenon.
I personally can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s Art Basel as this year exceeded my expectations!!
