Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik’s entry into the fashion industry has been a seamless one—since leaving the boy band to go solo, the “Like I Would” singer has been spotted at the Met Gala, on the cover of Vogue, and on the arm of model/designer Gigi Hadid. And since fashion and music tend to go hand in hand, the natural next step is a collaboration, which is exactly what he’s doing with luxury footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti.
“Style is not being afraid to be bold about some things, or to say what it is you have to say,” Zayn, who took to social media to announce the collaboration, said in an interview with GQ. “I feel like Giuseppe does that with his collection—and I try to do that with my music. So it kind of works.”
Malik, who first met Zanotti at Paris Fashion Week last year, previewed the capsule collection in the GQ profile, modeling a pair of black suede boots with side zippers that he designed with Zanotti in one photo.
So what can you expect when the entire collection is made available starting in January of next year? “It’s about being happy to look scruffy,” Malik explained. “I just got into the whole rock sort of feel to clothes—big boots, skinny jeans, and dark T-shirt, and rings. Just the grungy feel.” You can also expect a hefty price tag (remember, Giuseppe Zanotti is a luxury label, despite this new grungy, rock’n’roll collaboration)—the style credits in the GQ spread listed prices ranging from $695 to $995.
