How to Get the
Perfect French Pout

The French Pout—faire la moue— is more than just a pretty pucker, it’s all about attitude! Usually reserved for moments of disapproval and even disdain, we can’t help but notice how glamorous it looks on the runway and red carpet too.

Step 1.

Use an invisible lip liner to prevent feathering or flaking. Try DuWop Reverse Lipliner ($19), a colorless matte pencil that’s free of nasty chemicals and keeps lipstick in its place.

Step 2.

Apply your favorite matte red or berry lipstick. We love Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick in Shanghai Express ($24), a dramatic garnet hue, and IMAN Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick in Black Brandy ($8.99), a wickedly rich berry.

Step 3.

Now, push your lips out then bring them back in just slightly (your lips should look like you’re puckering for a kiss). Try to look as bored as possible to get the full effect of the faire la moue!
