The Dish - Reel Good Fashion
Stylish French Films, Movies from France that Inspire Us
There’s nothing like a movie set in France—the music, the romance…the fashion! Here are three stylish films that inspire us.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg)
We love this film, not just for the star-crossed romance of young Geneviève (Catherine Deneuve) and Guy (Nino Castelnuovo), but also for the girly prettiness of it all, from 17-year old Geneviève's winsome dresses to the wallpaper in her widowed mother’s umbrella shop.
Fashion from the Film
With it’s sunny color and adorable little bows, we can definitely see young Geneviève in this sweater!
Amelie (Amélie)
One of our faves! Audrey Tatou is beyond adorable as fresh-faced Amélie, a waitress who spends her time secretly doing good deeds for her father, friends, and even complete strangers. With her elfish smile and huge heart, we’re always thrilled that she finally gets a happy ending of her own.
Fashion from the Film
Amélie’s style was sweet and completely unfussy.
Paris When It Sizzles
Who isn’t a fan of Audrey Hepburn? In this romantic-comedy she’s as charming as ever as Gabrielle Simpson, a temp secretary hired to type a script for a screenplay writer, but instead ends up acting out every crazy shenanigan in the plot.
Fashion from the Film
A modern twist to Gabrielle’s stylish secretary look.
