FIDM Fashion Club President Doria Day of Oaks Bloomington High School North in Bloomington, Indiana shares how she’s staying inspired during the coronavirus pandemic.
How are you personally staying inspired right now? I’ve been staying inspired during these less inspiring times by doing more of what I love: sewing. With how busy my schedule used to be with school, work, clubs, etc., I barely had enough time for myself and for pursuing my creative passions. I have taken this time to finish projects I’ve either put off or wanted to start. What also keeps me inspired is the fact that I do have the skills to sew. I have been sewing masks for people in my community and that gives me purpose.
Are there specific brands or personalities you admire who are showing leadership during this health crisis? Christian Siriano, FIDM, Dolce&Gabbana, as well as the CFDA have all been so inspiring during these uncertain times. From donating up-to-code fabric to making hundreds and hundreds of masks by hand and donating money, it has been so inspiring to see the fashion industry as a whole come together to help support those in the health industry and those working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. I also admire how YouTube personalities like Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson have made the efforts to post more to keep their audience entertained.
Have you held any virtual FIDM Fashion Club meetings? We are currently in the works of scheduling a Zoom meeting to get the chance to say goodbye to everyone before the school year ends here very shortly. I’m thinking of making it a themed meeting so that everyone can have an excuse to wear their cutest outfits.
Do you have any tips for staying connected with fellow members during this challenging time? I have started doing Takeover Tuesdays, where our members will take over our InstaStories for the day, as well as Follow Fridays, where I suggest people either in the Bloomington fashion community or Fashion Club community to follow on Instagram. I’d like to put together a virtual fashion show of all our members doing their best catwalks at home! I’ve also made a point to watch the FIDM Fashion Club Instagram story every day. I love seeing fellow presidents and members takeover to share cute DIYs and projects I could do here at home.
Tune in to our Instagram Stories @fidmfashionclub to see takeovers from FIDM Fashion Club Presidents.
