How I’m Staying Inspired: Ella Deveaux

How Fashion Club President Ella D stays inspired

Ella Deveaux, a future FIDM Fashion Club President at Westview High School North in Portland, Oregon, shares how she’s staying inspired during the coronavirus pandemic.

How are you personally staying inspired right now? I’ve been watching a bunch of movies and taking some ideas from costumes to incorporate into my everyday outfits. I’ve also been doing a lot of journaling and finding a lot of new music to listen to while I work to keep those creative juices flowing.

Are there specific brands or personalities you admire who are showing leadership during this health crisis? I admire how many of the YouTubers I follow—Remi Ashten, Alisha Marie, Ashley (@bestdressed), and Hannah Meloche—have been making an effort to continue creating calming and joyful content; it’s really nice to be able to escape for a little and watch their videos. I also admire how designer Daniel Fletcher, who I found through the Netflix show Next in Fashion, has been using his sewing skills and materials to make masks to support front-line workers, and show people how he is making them.

Do you have any tips for staying connected during this challenging time? I’ve found that group chats and bi-weekly or weekly Zoom calls to just catch up and check-in with people have worked quite well for the other clubs and groups I’m in.
