Lake Creek High School FIDM Fashion Club President Jillian Hackett shares how she’s staying inspired during the coronavirus pandemic.
How are you personally staying inspired right now? I’ve been keeping in contact with my friends and making different mood boards and sketching a ton. Also, going outside in my yard has really helped a lot as my designs are greatly influenced by nature. Natural light and my small projects keep my creativity flowing—every bit helps. I always keep changing what environment I’m in around my home, so I don’t become stagnant. I’m also working on a collection for NYFW with this new time. Staying organized also keeps me thinking of new things. If I keep creating nothing will stop me, so I’ve just been constantly brainstorming and creating.
Are there specific brands or personalities you admire who are showing leadership during this health crisis? I really admire Christian Siriano and his actions to help healthcare workers. I’ve been trying to stay positive and I can always count on my favorite bridal designer Hayley Paige to make me smile with Miss Winnie Paige and her never-ending sparkle I see through social media. Finally, on more of a local Texas note, I really admire Project Runway designer Brittany Allen and her dedication. She’s been personally sewing face masks for healthcare workers, using her own resources to do so. I really admire the strength that the fashion industry has had in supporting our health care workers during such an uncertain time.
Do you have any tips for staying connected with fellow members during this challenging time? I would say to utilize social media to its fullest potential; use it to ignite your creative spark. Keep communicating, FaceTime, hear each other’s voices, and stay in touch. People inspire people, so keep inspiring the people around you. Let your passion for fashion be the light in someone else’s life during this confusing and dark time.
