How I’m Staying Inspired: Sophie Gow

William B. Travis High School FIDM Fashion Club President Sophie Gow shares how she’s staying inspired during the coronavirus pandemic.

How are you personally staying inspired right now? I am trying my best to stay positive and make the most of the situation by taking advantage of this free time to create. I have been able to spend more time drawing, painting, designing, and practicing my sewing techniques, as well as trying new hobbies such as knitting and biking.

Are there specific brands or personalities you admire who are showing leadership during this health crisis? Tesla’s Elon Musk offered to manufacture ventilators and is expected to make 1,200 to distribute. Another celebrity I look up to is Rihanna—she has such huge influence over younger generations and recently donated $5 million to organizations that help with the fight against COVID-19.

Do you have any tips for staying connected with fellow members during this challenging time? I would say group FaceTime is a great way to stay connected with friends and family. Also, Instagram is a great way to see what others are doing and allow others to see your creativity. I haven’t had a virtual Fashion Club meeting yet, but I definitely plan on one, using either FaceTime or Instagram Live.
