Along with Co-President Erin Bond, student Kelly Hsieh (pictured third from left) is leading the FIDM Fashion Club at Santa Monica College (SMC) in Santa Monica, California. We caught up with the fashion-loving Co-President to learn more about their vision for 2022 and hear all about a recent visit to FIDM to see the House of Gucci exhibition.
How did you learn about FIDM Fashion Club? We heard about FIDM Fashion Club through FIDM’s Fashion Club Day. I registered online and want to provide more resources for SMC students.
What is your vision for your FIDM Fashion Club this year? Our vision for FIDM Fashion Club this year is to provide a community where students can help each other with their portfolio.
Tell us about your recent club activities: We watched House of Gucci as a club. We had a fabric trade event where sponsors donate fabrics to the students and students can take whatever they want. Students can also bring in things from their home that they want to trade. We also had a meet and greet at a Santa Monica Cafe to discuss our digital magazine.
How was your club’s recent visit to FIDM? It was awesome! It was the first time for most students. The library and textile room really helped these students think about the possibilities of this field. Students were honored to meet [Department Chairs] Jaqueline Saint Anne, Mimi Su, and Roni Miller. We were also in luck to see the House of Gucci costume exhibit. Shopping at the FIDM Scholarship Store was also really fun!
Do you have any advice for FIDM Fashion Club Presidents? Be active on social media. Collaborating with other schools or clubs is great. Have fun!
